These FIFA World Cup Ads Are At the Top of Their Game

At long last, the FIFA Women’s World Cup kicks off tomorrow and brands are putting out some cool work in support of the players and teams.

Nike’s 90s Nostalgia

First up is this Nike Ad which features US Women’s player Megan Rapinoe (who has announced that this will be her last tournament). The ad does a great job of crossing 90s X-Men cartoon nostalgia vibes (my jam) with soccer stardom.

Orange’s “The Bleues”

Next up is Orange’s “The Bleues” highlights, which has a reveal half-way through that has been getting a lot of attention. I must say, this ad does give me some mixed feelings, as I believe “the reveal” shouldn’t be needed for people to appreciate the level of the women’s game.

Nike’s Debinha – Joga Forever

Nike’s back again with this Brazilian ad that demonstrates some epic juggling skills from Debinha…in a supermarket. Definitely reminiscent of the impressive talent this man debuted after dropping some items at a grocery store.

USA vs. The World

This commercial really made me LOL (well, at the time travelling Rapinoe part…) and features all the hacky ways other teams might think to defeat their formidable American opponents. As the women’s game has continued to evolve in other countries, through professional leagues and deepened investment, I don’t think anyone will have to resort to the tactics here – but hey, I’m always curious to see how time travel pans out!

Germany’s Squad Announcement

This spot leans into Germany’s lack of familiarity with their players and team, despite their team’s prolific success in Europe. And, it puts a funny twist on some female stereotypes while doing so.

Ads aside, the Women’s World Cup is sure to be a thrilling event, with the level of competitiveness between teams continuing to reach new heights. You’re bound to be entertained – so come on in, the water’s warm!
