Here’s a round-up of jams I’ve been listening to lately, ranging from songs that will have you shuffling your feet in a kitchen dance-party-of-one to zoning out staring at the ceiling (these seem to be the two states I oscillate between these days). Also, hot tip: I discovered many of these tunes on HBO’s Betty and Generation, both of which I recommend checking out!
“4Runner” – Rostam
I’ve long been a fan of Rostam, not only for his work producing hit singles from the likes of Maggie Rogers and HAIM, but also for his own music. He creates really interesting arrangements that employ a wide range of instruments and effects to form a very unique sound. Check out one of his latest singles, “4Runner”, which I found to be catchy AF.
“Meet Me At Our Spot” – THE ANXIETY, WILLOW, Tyler Cole
This song surprised me, not for its sound, but for who is involved. Turns out, this is WILLOW SMITH’S new project, which is far, far cry from her “Whip My Hair” days. This song gives me Toronto indie band vibes, with Willow and Tyler Cole providing alternating vocals on the track.
“No Trouble” – Houses & Dawn Golden
Dial up the chill with this relaxing track from Houses & Dawn Golden. The bassline is a little reminiscent of “Walk on the Wild Side” by Lou Reed, which makes it feel familiar.
“Go to Town” – Doja Cat
I really enjoyed HBO’s Betty, which I crushed all 6 episodes of last week. The show is filled with a killer soundtrack with this specific song being used in just the right spot. Maybe I have an affinity for the scene it showed up in, but I’ve been jamming on it a lot this past week. .
“All the Time” – ROMES feat. Haivu Ru
Add this song to your next kitchen dance-party for a cheerful vibe and slick bassline that is sure to make you shuffle your feet. Also, watch Generation, which is where I discovered this and many more new jams.
“Purple Sand (My Home)” – Big Wild
I wrote up a feature on Big Wild a few weeks back, and am adding this one to that list. Plus, anyone that can make whistling a catchy chorus element, and is not affiliated with the Harlem Globetrotters, is an actual baller.
“Strangers” – Ruby Haunt
Space out with this dreamy jam from LA-based Ruby Haunt, which is another find from the Betty soundtrack.
