Ah, ’tis the season for watching the rain run down the glass, staring longingly into the fall leaves, laughing at the squirrels foraging for…OKAY JUST ME AND MY LIFE? Fine. But, you might also enjoy these emerging indie artists from Norway, Ireland, and Australia. So, drape yourself in your favourite flannel shirt and let’s dive into these indie tunes.
girl in red
I’m a little late to girl in red, but I heard an awesome remix with Day Wave last week, which I am absolutely digging. Girl in red joins the likes of Sigrid, Anna of the North, and Dagny as new Norwegian artists making it onto the airwaves. I think before them, the only Norwegian artists I had heard were Aqua and a-ha, so I’m glad to see that they’re moving further down the alphabet (and up the syllable count.)
Hayden Calnin
Hayden Calnin’s acoustic guitar heavy vibes are perfect for rainy, autumn afternoons. His sound gives me a lot of Bon Iver vibes, with chill vocals that echo over top of entrancing guitar strums. Get warm by a crackling fire with this one.
Patricia Lalor
I’m almost certain everyone from the Emerald Isle is touched with musicality, and Patricia Lalor is no exception (<—Yes, I think that’s what I meant moments ago when I used the word “everyone”.) This 14-year old talent (yup – that’s right!) has been making waves with her killer covers, including one of Hozier’s “Cherry Wine” that got over 1.5 million views. The production quality and effects are quite good, so I guess she’s not working with renowned producer- GarageBand – like I was when I was 14.
