I just finished Reservation Dogs Season 2 and it was one of the most beautiful seasons of television I have ever seen. The show has an almost delicate, subtle power that deftly weaves in challenging circumstances, with light, levity, and hope as it follows a group of teenage friends on a reserve in Oklahoma.
Impressive performances from the cast are what makes it so easy to connect with the story, as the group tries to find their way after losing a beloved friend. My favourite episode from the series so far was written by Canada’s own Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs, as her character navigates the impending death of her grandmother. The way it was shot, acted, and written – I could really feel everything her character was feeling. And, I shed some tears (but in a good way!) In fact, I think it’s one of the most powerful episodes of TV I’ve ever watched.
The chemistry between Kawennáhere Devery Jacobs, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Paulina Alexis, and Lane Factor makes their friendships, fallings-out, and adventures very believable and easy to connect with. Each brings a puzzle piece to the dynamic that allows the storyline to flex easily between emotional depths – happy, sad, and everything in between.
Not to mention the rest of cast, who add a lot of humour (and profound wisdom) throughout the show. Jana Schmieding cracks me up, and I often rewind to listen to her lines a second time.
I couldn’t recommend this season more. I hope you check it out if you haven’t already been watching!
