This blog is basically a Mars Rover fan account now. But, this is unprecedented footage from ANOTHER PLANET IN OUR SOLAR SYSTEM, so I hope you stick along for the ride!
Today, NASA released new video footage of Percy the Rover landing on Mars. This includes a flawless 70-foot parachute deployment (that opened in seven-tenths of a second…SO FAST!), and the landing module drifting down to the surface, slowing its descent, and successfully lowering the rover to the surface from the SkyCrane. See the highlights below for yourself!
You can also see in the photo below where all the components landed from this photo taken by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The squares below each represent a 200m square distance. Eventually, they will be covered by dust and become less visible on the surface, but for now they’re easy to pick out.
NASA also released some new HQ photos from The Car-sized Rover That Could, including a 360° panorama shot that you can play around with below.
