Dive Into These Two New Docuseries

Follow the rise of the Matildas women’s soccer team as they prepare to host the World Cup, and David Attenborough as he reveals the natural world of the British Isles.

Matildas: The World At Our Feet

The FIFA Women’s World Cup of soccer will be hosted in Australia and New Zealand this summer from July 20 – August 20, 2023. This 6-episode docuseries on Disney+ follows Australia’s team –  The Matildas – as they lead up to the big event. Drafting on a solid performance at the Tokyo Olympics, which saw them nearly defeat the (historically) powerhouse American team, they aim to take top spot on home soil. Central to their success is Sam Kerr, who is revered as perhaps the best world’s striker, in addition to top talents like Ellie Carpenter, Katrina Gorry, and Mary Fowler. Follow the team as they firm up the squad, handle heart-breaking injuries, and prepare to face the world’s best. (Also, the show casually features three queer relationships, and one straight one [lol] for anyone interested in seeing some ultra-healthy, happy queers crushing it.)

Wild Isles

I guess no one was going to cart 96-year old David Attenborough off to the far reaches of the Earth during the pandemic. So, instead this nature docuseries sticks a little closer to home – the British Isles. But, nature abounds here as well, with the first episode kicks off following a pod of killer whales, and bird and insect life that lives off the bounty contained in chalk stream habitats and rugged coastlines. Drone technology reveals the impressive hunting strategies of a pod of orca whales, as they manoeuvre through narrow gullies to prey upon seals who hug the shoreline. Watch now on Amazon Prime.
