The Women’s Super League is a World Cup Every Weekend

The FA Women’s Super League (WSL) in Britain is like watching the Women’s World Cup every weekend. The teams feature some of the best players in the world from England, the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, and more, including Vivianne Miedema (the highest-scoring WSL player…and one who is coming quickly for Christine Sinclair’s international goals record), Sam Kerr, Lucy Bronze, Pernille Harder, Steph Houghton, Ellen White, Fran Kirby, Tobin Heath, and Jessie Fleming (CANADA). And, big networks are catching on to the awesome play and committing to broadcast in multi-year deals on Sky Sports, Sportsnet, and NBC.

The Super League currently consists of 12 teams, led by the “big three” of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City.  I never thought I’d say the words “I cheer for Arsenal” as a Liverpool English Premier league fan by blood, but here we are. The quality of the televised matches I’ve seen has been very high, and it is an absolute delight to see big stage players that I typically only get to see every four years on my TV with regularity.

I really hope you tune in if you get the chance, as these matches are fast-paced, high-calibre, and full of quality playmaking and scoring. Plus, the players themselves are also fairly engaged on social media and clearly appreciate their fans. For example, leading goal-scorer Vivianne Miedema watched my Instagram story within minutes of me posting. (So, also be careful to tag them in good stuff…)

Stay tuned in by following the league on @BarclaysFAWSL or the WePlayStrong channels, which champion a lot of the players in the league.

What team will you be cheering for?
